Benbow Steels' Environmental Policy

Benbow Steels acknowledges that its operations, and those of the industry it serves, can have a harmful impact on both the local and global environment and it is committed to leading the industry in reducing this impact.

We are committed to:

Offsetting CO2e emmission with Carbon Credits

With a full understanding of our responsibilities to reduce our environmental impact we have implemented a number of measures and processes including the use of recycling bins in the office and the works, and ensuring all products use recyclable packaging.

In 2020 we embarked on an ambitious development programme to double the company’s capacity and capability. In order to mitigate the consequences this programme had on the environment, we calculated the CO2e emissions generated with the help of Dom Napier from Turning the Black Country Green. They then offset them through the purchase of verified Carbon Credits and planted 97 trees in Black Country schools. Benbow Steels are also calculating their carbon footprint for 2022 with the view to reducing this significantly in 2023 and beyond.

Carbon reducing Xcarb® Green Steel Certificate initiative

Benbow Steels are proud to be the first supplier in the UK of ArcelorMittal’s innovative XCarb® certificates which can accompany their pre-painted steel products.

XCarb® certificates are available to purchase alongside standard blast furnace produced steel and certify the significant reductions in carbon emissions that ArcelorMittal have been able to make with their revolutionary, multi million pound investments in their XCarb® initiatives. Purchasers of these certificates can claim these significant savings as part of their Scope 3 declarations.

These certificates are formally, independently verified and stay with the product for the whole life cycle which means that every user can claim the reduced emissions as part of their Scope 3 declarations.
